DIY Inspiration

The prospect of getting married is exciting enough, but I'm super stoked by all the amazing DIY projects out there. I've found some great websites during my hours of research and here's a baker's dozen of them in no particular order.

2. The Bride's Cafe
3. DIY Wedding
4. Once Wed
5. Wedding Window
6. A Practical Wedding
7. Wedding Chicks
8. My DIY Wedding Day

10. Offbeat Bride
11. The Crafty DIY Bride
12. My Splendid $10,000 Wedding
13. Wednesday Blog

There are some "classic" DIY wedding ideas that show up over and over again, which is great because having more than one tutorial or design to inspire you is very helpful.

DIY fabric bunting from Intimate Weddings
But don't limit yourself to wedding blogs when looking for projects. The key is finding things that put a smile on your face and fit with your vision for the day; Google is a great tool for getting the actual mechanics of making something. So check out design, gardening and even photography blogs or magazines for ideas!

Growing up I enjoyed drawing, painting and sewing and now as an adult I can bake, knit, make jewelry and garden. Those sound like pretty handy skills to have for DIY projects and there's almost a whole year to work on them. Ambition is running high at this point and here's my plan:

Veil (I refuse to pay $475 for some tulle and a plastic clip!!)
Floral hair clip to wear for the reception
Pew decorations for the church
Votive holders (birch bark and lace-covered)
Fabric and crepe paper flowers
Save the Date cards
Invitations
Ceremony Programs
Escort Cards
Menu Cards
Table Name Signs
Card box
Custom monogram for stationery items
Guestbook
Terrarium or potted herb decorations
Photobooth
Corsages
Boutonnieres
Various reception decor elements
Homemade favours
Jewelry for the bridal party

Exciting!! :)
