After driving the gorgeous Icefields Parkway, we arrived at the Cathedral Mountain Lodge just outside of Field, BC. Situated along the Kicking Horse River in the shadow of Mount Steven, the lodge is a luxurious hideaway in the wilderness.
The lodge offers private cabins for 2-4 people that include a wood burning fireplace, large deck and soaker tub with Aveda amenities.
Your stay includes a complementary breakfast buffet and afternoon tea served in the bright and spacious main lobby, with a cozy indoor/outdoor fireplace and views of the river. One morning we spotted a group of mountain goats with the binoculars we borrowed from the lobby!
We opened the door of our cabin to find a complementary bottle of champagne, large picnic basket and personal note. The lodge has several chairs on the banks of the river that would make an excellent lunch spot.
The dining room at the lodge is first class. We enjoyed gourmet meals like wild BC salmon or Alberta beef tenderloin with herb and cheese polenta. The daily breakfast buffet included bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereals, toast and pstries. Not your standard complementary brekfast! Everything was fresh, seasonal and beutifully plated. All of the breads and pastries are baked in house too.
We were lucky to take advantage of the weekly wine and cheese held in the lobby featuring complementary...wine and cheese :) Afternoon tea was on at the same time so I enjoyed a delicious croissant with my wine and local cheeses before heading into Lake Louise for dinner. On clear nights, the lodge also has a s'mores roast in the lobby fireplace. Leave your diet at home!
Overall, I'd highly recommend this lodge. There were many guests there during our stay, which made breakfast service an exercise in patience and limited our privacy but otherwise the service, food and amenities were excellent. A perfectly luxurious way to treat ourselves!
